Social Effect was started by Rizwan Tayabali in 2009 based on extensive cross-domain and cross-regional experience with social change in both the non-profit and social enterprise/social business arenas. We deliver with a combination of in-house and associate consultants.

Experience and Background

Rizwan has over 20 years of social and commercial experience ranging from strategic innovation and design, to delivery and implementation of programs and change. He has worked with some of the UK’s Top Finance and Retail companies as a Management Consultant, while also working with social projects in parallel. He specialises in the design and implementation of long term solutions to social and human challenges, as well as in structuring organisations to deliver those solutions, and in 2014 created the PATRI Framework for Scaling Impact which is currently being used by the international Ashoka Globalizer program.

Rizwan has a rare combination of cross-domain and cross-regional experience in both the non-profit and social enterprise arenas. He has started, worked for and managed a number of impact organisations over the span of his career. While consulting through Social Effect he advised the leaders and management teams of organisations involved in social development around the world, ranging from small sized start-ups to large-scale transgovernmental entities - thus engaging with the diversity of human and developmental challenges on the ground. Having worked with more than 200 social purpose organisations in over 25 countries across Western Europe, North, Central and South America, the Indian Sub-Continent, South East Asia and Africa, Rizwan has built deep first hand experience of social change across most of the primary regions of social development around the world.

Rizwan was awarded an RSA Fellowship for his contribution to social outcomes in the UK. He has also been a mentor for the larger UnLtd Award winners in the UK, and more recently for Rotary Projects and Ashoka Fellows around the world, particularly focusing on scaling human development projects. He is on the Board of various international nonprofits and has spoken on Social Enterprise at a number of Universities including The University of Oxford, UEA and INSEAD.
